ORIGINAL COLT MODEL 1860 ARMY REVOLVER, .44 CALIBER
Description :
This is an original, Civil War, U.S. Model 1860 Army Revolver manufactured by Colt in 1862. The .44 caliber, percussion Model 1860 was the standard service revolver of the Union Army during the Civil War. By war's end nearly 156,00 had been made. When Colt stopped production of the M1860 in 1873, over 200,000 had been made. They were quite popular, and many were carried into the great American West. This is one of those guns that might have gone West. It was manufactured in 1869 and is in very good condition. Alas, the cylinder is mismatched, and the wedge is not numbered. The revolver retains about 30% of its factory blued finish in protected areas. The remainder has a smooth dark brown patina. The case colors are faintly visible but have mostly turned gray. The trigger guard has a nice golden brass patina. The gun works very well mechanically. The bore and chambers are in fine condition, dark but smooth with sharp rifling. The grips are in good condition with a number of dents, dings, and scratches from use. There is an old chip on the bottom of the left grip. This would look great in a display of Old West Firearms.
