Item :	FINE SWEDISH MODEL 1867/89 REMINGTON ROLLING BLOCK RIFLE, 8X58MM

Description :

This is a Swedish Model 1867/89 Remington Rolling Block Rifle built by Carl Gustafs in 1873. Originally chambered for the 12.17x44mm rimfire cartridge, it was converted to 8x58mm (Danish Krag) centerfire. This conversion program was intended to extend the life of the Rolling Block into the smokeless powder era. The rifles were converted between 1889 and 1894. This rifle was converted in 1893 by Carl Gustafs. It is in very fine condition with matching numbers. These rifles had a new number assigned when converted, which is on the right side of the barrel with the date of conversion. The original receiver number was retained and stamped on all new parts. The rifle retains about 90% of its blued finish with some finish wear on the barrel bands. The receiver has about 60% of its cased color remaining with wear on the tangs and trigger guard. The butt plate has no finish. The rifle has excellent mechanics and a very fine bore with strong rifling. The stock and forearm are in fine condition with a few small dings and scratches from use. Both are numbered to the gun and the forearm also has the date of conversion. The stock retains its brass ID disk. There is what looks like a signature scratched into the left side of the butt. It is in script and nicely done. This is a very nice example of the 1867/89 Swedish Rolling Block. Stock no. 29627
