ENGRAVED LONDON COLT MODEL 1851 NAVY REVOLVER, .36 CALIBER
Description :
This is an London Colt Model 1851 Navy Percussion Revolver. London Colts had their own serial number range. This early, engraved revolver has serial number 85 and was made in 1853. The earliest London Colts were made with parts made in America, so this revolver has a New York address on the barrel rather than the typical London address. This gun is in very good condition. The gun is all matching except for the wedge. It has very little finish left with just traces in protected areas. The frame and hammer appear to have been nickel plated and the barrel blued. The loading lever may have been nickeled. The barrel was blued. I cannot determine the original finish of the cylinder. The cylinder scene is very worn and faint. The cylinder has been polished. The trigger guard and grip straps retain about 80% of their silver plating. The factory engraving is well executed and elegant without overpowering the gun. The bore and chambers are dark, but the rifling is strongly visible along the barrel's length. The mechanism needs a little work. There is no half cock. The hammer does hold and fire from the full cock position. The wooden grips are in very good condition with some darkening from loss of the varnished finish. Areas with varnish remaining are lighter in color. These earliest London Colt Navies are quite scarce. Stock no. 29350
