This is a Model 1870 Rolling Block U.S. Navy Rifle chambered for the .50-70 Government cartridge. It was made at Springfield Armory under a royalty agreement with the Remington Arms Company. Produced in 1870 and 1871, just over 22,000 were produced. This gun has excellent mechanics and an excellent bore. It should make a great shooter. The finish looks to be an old reblue with about 60% remaining on the barrel. The exposed metal has a smooth dark brown patina. The way the blue has worn looks like it is a painted finish. The bayonet lug has been ground flush to allow for the use of a socket bayonet. There is no anchor on the top of the barrel, but the receiver markings are clear. The stock is in fine condition with a few small dings and scratches from use. If you have wanted a .50-70 to shoot, this one may be for you. Stock no. 29592
