FINE CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN FLINTLOCK LONG RIFLE, .40 CALIBER
Description :
This is a custom built, contemporary American Flintlock Long Rifle of about .40 caliber. The rifle exhibits simple but elegant styling and is of the type known as a Poor Boy or Southern rifle. The stock is made from highly figured curly maple. This is a working rifle with no carving, no patchbox, and no nose cap. There are two simple round ramrod pipes and no entry pipe. The butt plate is made from a simple flat sheet of brass. There is a short toe plate. The gun has excellent mechanics with double lever double set triggers. The lock has good architecture and sparks very well. The touch hole is in the right place. The bore has a little dust towards the muzzle but looks to be excellent. The 42" barrel is swamped (tapered and flared) giving the rifle great balance. The barrel is filed smooth and browned. The brass furniture has a nice yellow brass patina with a few darker specks of tarnish. As stated, the stock has outstanding figure. It is in very fine condition with a few small dings and scratches from use. There is a small chip at the leading edge of the toe plate. If you have had an interest in shooting flintlock rifles this is a superb way to start. Stock no. 29591
