VERY FINE U.S. MODEL 1899 KRAG-JORGENSEN CAVALRY CARBINE, .30-40 GOVERNMENT
Description :
This is an original, U.S. Model 1899 Krag-Jorgensen Cavalry Carbine made at Springfield Armory in about 1900 and chambered for the .30-40 Government cartridge. The Model 1899 was produced from 1899-1902, with only about 36,000 made. It was the last dedicated cavalry carbine used by the U.S. military and the last American carbine chambered to fire the same cartridge as the rifle. The Model 1899 omitted the sling ring bar and was instead carried in a leather boot attached to the saddle. This carbine is in very fine condition with more than 95% of its factory blued finish remaining. There are just a few speckles in the finish with a bit of wear on the high points. The bolt remains armory bright. The extractor retains its fire blued finish. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock is excellent, as well. The stock is an arsenal military replacement. It has a crisp "P" proof behind the trigger guard but there is no cartouche. There is a tiny chip at the toe of the stock. This is a beautiful Model 1899 in outstanding condition. Stock no. 29496
