Item No.: 10130 Price : $4,950.00
Item : SUPERB SPRINGFIELD US MODEL 1884 TRAPDOOR RIFLE, .45-70, W/ BAYONET
Description :
This is an original, U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1889. It is chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge. The Model 1884 was the last of the Trapdoor rifles to use a socket bayonet. The M1884 differed from the earlier trapdoor variations by being fitted with the Buffington rear sight. Approximately 200,000 rifles were produced between 1886 and 1891. This rifle is in excellent, like new condition. About 98% of its factory blued finish remains with a bit of finish wear on the heel and toe of the butt plate. The breech block and tang have brilliant 100% cased color. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock is excellent with a crisp dated cartouche and "P" firing proof. There are a couple of tiny dents from storage. This rifle is unissued but they were shipped in crates! Included is an original Model 1873 bayonet and scabbard which is the correct bayonet for this rifle. It is in excellent condition as well with nearly 100% of its blued finish remaining. The scabbard is very fine with a little light pitting on the curved front. This is without a doubt the finest Model 1884 I have ever seen and as close to factory new as is possible. I doubt you will ever find a better example. Stock no. 29184
