This is a WWII Japanese Type 38 Arisaka Rifle manufactured at the Tokyo Artillery Arsenal and chambered for the 6.5mm Arisaka cartridge. Adopted in 1905, the Type 38 was Japan's premier battle rifle in both the First and Second World War. The Type 38 remained in production until 1945, even though a new design, the Type 99, was adopted in 1939. This rifle is in fine condition with about 90% of its blued finish remaining. There is faint finish wear on the high points and on the heel and toe of the butt plate. The rifle has excellent mechanics. The action is stiff but I believe that is caused by the tight-fitting dust cover. The bolt and dust cover are not numbered. The bore is very good, a little dark but with strong rifling along the barrel's length. The stock is very good with the usual scattering of small dings and scratches associated with use. The mum has been disfigured by peening. This is a bit nicer Type 38 than you usually find. Stock no. 29440
