Description :
|
This is an original, British Pattern 1759 Light Dragoon Flintlock Pistol manufactured by William Grice in 1760. Grice was a wealthy gunmaker in Birmingham who was a major supplier of military arms to the British Army. He supplied the first rifles employed against the American Rebels. The Model 1759 was the standard British pistol used during the American Revolution. This pistol is in fine condition. At some point, probably during the revolution, the wooden ramrod was replaced with a military steel rod. This ramrod is proofed. The barrel and lock have a steel patina with a light sprinkling of oxidation. The ramrod has a dark brown patina. The brass furniture has a nice dark bronze patina. The ramrod pipe has some damage at the front and back of the pipe. The lock works well. The smooth bore is in very good condition. The stock is in very good condition with a scattering of small dings and scratches from use. There is some old chipping along the bottom back end of the lock mortise. There are proof stamps on the barrel. There is a GR cypher on the stock near the tang. The number 18 is stamped into the butt cap and hammer. This is a true Revolutionary War pistol. Any arm of the revolution is rare and increasingly hard to find. Stock no. 29296
