Here is an original, British No.5, Mk.I SMLE Jungle Carbine manufactured at Royal Ordnance Factory Fazakerley in 1946. The jungle carbine was developed after experiences of jungle fighting in the jungle war. It was determined that a shorter, lighter arm was needed in the thick vegetation of Pacific Islands. The existing No.4, Mk.I served as the basis for the new carbine. The carbine was shorter and steps were taken to lighten its weight. A flash hider was incorporated due to the shorter barrel. This carbine is in very good condition. It is a genuine jungle carbine with the scalloped cuts on the barrel to decrease the weight. The gun retains about 80% of its black factory finish. There is overall light wear on the high points. The bolt handle and magazine have heavier finish wear. The gun has excellent mechanics with the bolt electro-pencil matched to the receiver. The bore is very dark, but the rifling is strongly visible along the barrel's length. The stock is in fine condition with a scattering of small dings and scratches from use. There is a small 1 1/2 " square area on the left side of the stock where something was scraped off the wood. This is a good correct Jungle Carbine. Stock no. 29295
