WWII, US MARINE CORPS FIGHTING KNIFE (KABAR) BY CAMILLUS W/ DATED BOYT SCABBARD
Description :
This is an original, early WWII U.S. Marine Corps Fighting Knife made by Camillus Cutlery about 1943. IT is in an original, early leather Scabbard made by Boyt and dated 1943. These came to be known as Kabars because of the most prolific maker, Kabar Cutlery. There were other manufacturers and Camillus was one of the best. This knife is in fine condition. The blade retains more than 98% of its factory blued finish. The guard is just turning brown on the edges and the pommel has some browning as well. The guard is marked "U.S.M.C." and "CAMILLUS, N.Y.". The leather washer grip is in fine condition with no roughness or separation of the leather. The scabbard is in very good to fine condition with flexible leather and tight stitching. It is the earlier variety with the stitched edges reinforced with metal staples. There is some darkening of the leather in areas and an area on the back near the tip that looks as if the leather swelled. The initials "R C" have been scratched on the front. The scabbard is nicely marked "USMC" over "BOYT" over "43", a scarce and desirable example. This is a purely correct, WWII USMC fighting knife in nice condition. Stock no. xxxxx
