Description :
|
This is a Smith & Wesson K-22 Outdoorsman Manufactured in the mid-1930's and chambered for the .22 Long Rifle cartridge. Also known as the K-22 1st Model, the Outdoorsman was a six-shot, double action revolver built on the "K" frame with a 6" barrel. These earliest k-22 revolvers did not have a barrel rib. They had unshrouded ejector rods and featured a smooth, semi-round top strap fitted with a rear sight adjustable for windage and elevation. This was the forerunner to the micrometer rear sight on later revolvers. The front sight is a Patridge style. They also have a long action, with the hammer cocking back farther than later guns. Smith & Wesson produced the 1st Model from 1931 to 1940. This revolver is in fine condition with about 95% of its factory blued finish remaining. There is some light holster wear at the muzzle, on the high points of the gun, and there is a significant drag line on the cylinder. The bores, chambers, and mechanics are excellent. The original walnut grips have been replaced with a period set of target grips made by W. Murad of San Carlos, California. Murad was the first producer of injection molded plastic grips. These are white plastic, checkered, with a thumb rest. They are in good condition with some ivory-like cracking at the butt and a small chip on the thumb rest. There is some soiling in the checkering, but I hear these clean up well with some toothpaste and a toothbrush. A K-22 1st Model is a scarce gun, especially in nice condition. Stock no. 28909
