Description :
|
This is an original, Pre-WWI, British No.I, Mk.III Short Magazine Lee Enfield Rifle manufactured by Birmingham Small Arms (BSA) in 1908. It is chambered for the .303 British cartridge. This was the standard British battle rifle of the First World War. This rifle is in very fine condition. It retains the magazine cutoff. It has undergone an arsenal rebuild and has been refinished and restocked. The gun retains about 90% of its current dark gray phosphate finish with a bit of wear on the high points and nose cap. The magazine shows heavier finish wear. The brass butt plate has a nice golden patina. The rifle has excellent mechanics with a mis-matched bolt. It has a fine bore. The stock is in very fine condition with a few small dings from use. There is an arsenal repair to the handguard just in front of the rear sight. Interestingly, the rifle is marked "E R" for "Edward Rex" on the stock socket. Rifles only bore this marking from the death of Queen Victoria in 1901 until the death of King Edward VII in 1910. The rifle is fitted with a replica of the early leather SMLE sling. Though rebuilt, this is a great early No.I, Mk.III rifle. Stock no. 28659
