ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR REMINGTON NEW MODEL ARMY REVOLVER, .44 CALIBER
Description :
Here is an original, Civil War Remington New Model Army .44 caliber percussion revolver. Approximately 122,000 of these were produced between 1863 and 1875. About 90,000 had been manufactured by wars end. This revolver's 76,xxx serial number places it squarely in the wartime production guns. The Remington was the 2nd most carried revolver of the war. With its solid frame and back strap, it was also the strongest, and many thought the Remington to be superior to the Colt. This revolver is in good condition with about 60% of its original factory blued finish remaining. The gun has a fairly heavy scattering of rust spots overall with a couple of small areas of heavier pitting. There is more blue than rust. The action needs some work. The revolver cocks correctly with the cylinder advancing, but the cylinder spins freely at full cock. The bore and chambers are heavily rusted. The grips are in fine condition with a visible inspector's cartouche on the left panel. The butt is marked with the initials "W.V." followed by "16. N.Y.". This revolver needs a bit of work but has a lot of original finish remaining. Stock no. 28713
