SWISS MODEL 1867 PEABODY MILITARY RIFLE, .41 SWISS RIMFIRE
Description :
This is a Swiss Model 1867 Peabody Military Rifle made by the Providence Tool Company of Providence, Rhode Island. The Providence Tool Company produced these from 1866–1871. Switzerland adopted the rifle in 1867. The Swiss rifles were chambered for the .41 caliber (10.4mm) Swiss rimfire cartridge. Many of these were rebuilt in 1877 with new Swiss made barrels. This rifle remains in original, unmodified condition. It is in very good to fine condition. The rifle retains about 90% of its factory blued finish on the barrel, bands, and butt. The receiver has mostly faded to a silvery gray, but some of the case color is still visible. There is some very fine pitting in a couple of places on the receiver. The rifle has excellent mechanics and a shiny excellent bore. The stock is very fine with just a few tiny dings from use. Both the butt and forearm are numbered to the gun. This is a nice Peabody. I know some people shoot these. If the ammo is available, this one should shoot well. Stock no. 28602
