VICTORIAN ERA BRITISH 1ST ROYAL DRAGOONS HELMET, CA. 1877

|
This is a steel cavalry helmet of the British 1st Royal Dragoons dating to the late 1870's. It has a brass trimmed steel cap with a decorative laurel banding. At front center is a white metal star badge with the number "1" surrounded by the motto "Honi Soit Mal y Pense". The helmet has a woven chain chin strap secured by rosettes on either side. A black horsehair plume emanates from a spike at the helmet's top. The helmet is in very fine condition with the steel and brass well-polished. There is a small area of discoloration on the steel at the 9:00 o'clock position of the star. The horsehair plume is in excellent condition. The liner is mostly intact with some drying and darkening of the leather flaps. The chord that ties the flaps at the top is missing. This is a beautiful helmet in great condition. It will enhance any cavalry display. Stock no. 28457
