Item :	CONFEDERATE ALTERED & USED VIRGINIA MANUFACTORY 2ND MODEL MUSKET

Description :

This is an original Virginia Manufactory 2nd Model Flintlock Musket of .69 caliber manufactured in 1816. It was converted to percussion for use by the Confederacy during the Civil War. This is a known bolster conversion done by Union Manufacturing in Richmond, Virginia. The barrel has been shortened to about 31". It may have been shortened at that time. This musket is in antique very good condition. It has an overall dark brown patina, mostly smooth, but with some significant pitting around the bolster. The lock will cock and fire but has no half-cock position. The hammer wiggles some in the down position. The bore is dark with pitting along most of its length. The stock is in fair to good condition with some chipping and cracking around the lock mortise. There is a crack at the edge of the barrel channel between the barrel bands on the right side of the stock. There are a couple of small cracks emanating from the rear side plate screw. There are the usual small dings and scratches associated with use. There is a small German silver inlay on the right side of the butt. This is a bonafide Confederate arm of the Civil War.
