Description :
|
This is an English Turn Barrel Percussion Boot Pistol made by Thomas Conway of Manchester. It is a single shot pistol with a folding trigger and a 3" smooth bore barrel. It is a bit more than .45 caliber. These small pistols were the concealed carry pistols of their day, easily carried in a gentleman's boot, his great-coat pocket, or in a lady's hand muff. They were loaded by unscrewing the octagonal barrel, filling the small chamber with powder, seating a ball on the cup shaped breech, and screwing the barrel back into place. Barrel removal was facilitated by a small key which fit into or onto the barrel and acted like a wrench. This pistol is in very fine condition. It was originally finished in case colors and about 90% of this fragile finish remains. There is some light finish wear from handling on the trigger plate. Case color is very visible on the barrel flats and frame. The pistol has excellent mechanics and a very fine bore. The finely checkered English walnut grip is in very fine condition as well. There is a silver thumb plate behind the barrel tang. Included is the original barrel key which doubles as a nipple wrench for removing the percussion cone. The key is almost always lost! You have no idea how rare it is to still have the original with the gun. This is an exquisite little pistol in great condition. Stock no. 28268
