JAPANESE "LAST DITCH" TYPE 99 ARISAKA RIFLE, 7.7MM
Description :
This is an original, WWII Japanese Type 99 (substitute) Rifle manufactured at Nagoya Arsenal near the end of the war and chambered for the 7.7x58mm cartridge. Known as "Last Ditch " rifles, shortages of war materials led to weapons of much cruder quality and simplified design. The rear sight was eliminated and replaced with a simple flat piece of metal with an aperture. The butt plates were made of wood and fastened to the stock with nails. The bolt handles were crudely forged. The cleaning rod was eliminated. The completed rifle was given a rough black finish. This rifle is in very fine condition for a last ditch gun. The "Mum" has been scrubbed. The rifle retains about 90% of its factory blue/black finish with the trigger guard beginning to turn brown. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock has the typical dings and scratches associated with use. This is a great example of the "Last Ditch" Arisaka. Stock no. 28058
