Description :
|
This is an original, US Model 1917 Rifle manufactured by Eddystone in April of 1918. The U.S. Model 1917 was based on the British P-14 Rifle being produced under contract by Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone. The British contracts ended just as America entered WWI. Rather than retool to make the Model 1903, it was decided to alter the P-14 to accept the U.S. .30-06 Government cartridge and the M1917 Rifle was born. Over 2.5 million were produced before the war's end. The M1917 actually saw more service in the war than the '03 Springfield. Alvin York won his Congressional Medal of Honor with a Model 1917 Rifle. This rifle is in excellent condition. It has been rebarreled and now has a Rock Island Arsenal barrel. It does retain its original blued finish with more than 95% remaining. There is a little finish wear on the barrel band and on the edges of the butt plate. The rifle has an excellent bore and mechanics. The stock is excellent as well, but has no visible markings. Included is an original WWII Model 1907 leather sling dated 1944. This is a great looking Model 1917. Stock no. 27903
