|
.69 Caliber Percussion Muzzle Loading Rifle developed by Whitney and Admiral John Dahlgren and named for his testing vessel the USS Plymouth. Strong, robust military arm. Breech and lock dated "1863". Rifle is serial numbered 6677. Barrel and lock are a tarnished grey patina with clear markings. Long rang ladder rear sight. Huge ram rod with heavy duty tulip shaped head. Bayonet lug on right muzzle for saber bayonet. Excellent mechanics and near mint bore. Distinctive trigger guard with finger spur. Inspectors initials "FCW" for Frank C Ward. Solid Oil finished stock with visible cartouche on left flat. Firearms from the Civil War Navy are scarce.
