This is an original, Civil War Sharps New Model 1859 Carbine. It is a percussion breech loading single shot carbine with a 22" barrel. The Sharps carbine was issued in higher numbers than any any other type during the Civil War. Converted to fire cartridges, it would serve into the Indian Wars. This carbine is in very good condition. It has an overall dark brown patina with some mottling of the patina on the barrel. There is a peppering of fine pitting on the lock plate. The mechanics are excellent. The bore is fair, with some pitting, but visible rifling along the barrel's length. The stock is very fine with just a few tiny dings from use. This is a nice early Civil War Sharps Carbine. Stock no. 27454
