RARE, RIFLED AND SIGHTED HENRY DERINGER MODEL 1816 PERCUSSION MUSKET, .69 CALIBER

Description :
Here is an original percussion Model 1816 Musket manufactured by Henry Deringer of Philadelphia. Deringer was producing the Model 1817 Common Rifle and wanted to secure a Government contract for muskets, as well. He produced this percussion musket with a rifled barrel and a rear sight to try and secure that contract. This musket is in very good to fine condition. Originally finished bright, the metal now has a fairly heavy scattering of brown patina. The butt plate is a dark brown. The lock works perfectly. The bore is fair. While the rifling is strong in places, there are large pitted areas, as well. The pitting looks faily deep. The stock is in fine condition with the usual scattering of small dings and scratches from use. This a rare and quite interesting musket of the pre-Civil War era. Stock no. 27751
