Item No.: 9838 Price : SOLD
Item : REVOLUTIONARY WAR ERA AUSTRIAN FLINTLOCK CAVALRY CARBINE, .72 CALIBER
Description :
Here is an original, Austrian Flintlock Cavalry Carbine dating to the period of the American Revolution. It is about .72 caliber. While it appears to be a cut down musket, the gun is in its original configuration, as built. The ramrod is full length with a threaded end. The ramrod channel is bored under the lock, through the butt, almost to the butt plate. This allows only a small portion of the rod to be visible and eliminates the need for ramrod pipes soldered under the barrel. The carbine is in good condition. It has an overall dark brown patina. The front 2/3 of the barrel has been cleaned leaving large areas of steel visible. The lock cocks correctly and the trigger works well. The frizzen spring is missing, though, which renders the lock inoperable. The stock is in very good condition. Interestingly, when the ramrod channel was drilled the bit ran out the right side of the butt and this was repaired. Drilling a ramrod channel the length of the butt is no small thing, and I suspect that given the technology of the time, this was a frequent occurrence. This is a scarce and interesting early flintlock carbine. Stock no. 27815
