FINE CIVIL WAR AUSTRIAN LORENZ RIFLE W/ GRISLYN LONG RANGE SIGHT

Description :
Here is an Austrian Model 1854 Lorenz Rifle imported for use during the Civil War. As both the North and the South struggled to equip their rapidly growing armies in the opening days of the Civil War, the nations of Europe emptied their arsenals, disposing of as many obsolete arms as possible. One of the arms obtained by both sides was the Model 1854 Lorenz Rifle. It was a rugged and dependable arm, of better quality than many of the other types acquired. It was the second most imported arm after the British Enfield. This Lorenz is fitted with the Grislyn Long Range Sight. It is in fine, untouched original condition. The barrel, trigger guard, and lock have a smooth brown patina. The butt plate is dark brown. The barrel bands and nose cap have a brownish pewter patina. There is some fine pitting around the nipple bolster. The lock works perfectly and the gun has a very good bore. There are a few darker spots visible, but the rifling is strong along the barrels length. The stock is in fine condition with just a few tiny dings and scuffs from use. The number "27" is stamped in front of the trigger guard. This is one of the nicest Lorenz rifles I have had. It is a classic Civil War long arm used in large number by both sides. Stock no. 27106
