FINE, WWI, ENFIELD NO.1, MK. III* SMLE RIFLE
Description :
This is an original, WWI, British No.1, Mk.III* Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) Rifle produced by Enfield in 1916. It is chambered for the .303 British cartridge. The No.1, Mk.III* was the standard British Battle Rifle of the First World War. It continued in service through WWII. This is an early MK. III*, made shortly after the discontinuation of the volley sight and magazine cutoff. The rifle is in fine, untouched condition with all matching parts. It retains about 90% of its original factory blued finish. There is some light finish wear on the magazine, barrel band, and bolt handle. The protective sight guard "wings" are turning brown. The brass butt plate has a nice dark bronze patina. The rifle has excellent mechanics. The bore is a little dark and "frosty", but has strong rifling along its length. The stock is in fine condition with a few small dings from use. This is another WWI rifle that is hard to find in untouched condition. With matching numbers and an early date, this is a desirable example. Stock no. 27332
