FINE ANTIQUE THIRD MODEL BROWN BESS MUSKET

9.75 Caliber smoothbore British Military Arm from the early 1790's until the percussion era, 1840. Original Tower Musket in the original flintlock configuration. 39 inch smoothbore barrel,(bore is very good for it's age, some crusty areas). Outside barrel is smooth, nearly bright and fine with two crisp proofs at the breech. Beautiful 7 inch "TOWER" lock with "crown/GR" in the center and a small "broad arrow/crown between the legs of the frizzen spring. Single neck pre 1810 hammer. Lock works very well. Very handsome brass furniture, trigger guard, buttplate, side plate, ramrod pipes, all are a bright golden patina. Excellent original oil finished stock with clear "1800" dated store keepers cartouche at right heel and Militia County marks branded on left butt, "95 B/Clare M". This is the British Musket of the Napoleonic Wars. The Clare Militia was raised as an Infantry Regiment at Clare Castle Ennis in 1793. It was head quartered at Clare Castle throught it's existence. This musket was carried by Pvt. Bryans James, #25, Company B, Circa 1810.
