CONFEDERATE SOUTH CAROLINA SURCHARGED HALL BREECH LOADING RIFLE
Description :
54 Caliber Breechloading Hall US Rifle. Given as a Flintlock to South Carolina under the Militia Act of 1808. Converted to percussion by SC just before the Civil War. These saw considerable service in the first year and a half of the War. Very good condition considering what it's been thru. Metal is overall a deep plum patina. The breech block has been fired many, many times and age and the corrosive effects of the percussion caps have obliterated the markings. Ram rod is a Confederate replacement. Stock is very good except the stock has chipped off at the rear of the breechblock assembly just like so many other Hall Rifles. Mechanics are good. Bore is well used. What makes this Rifle so interesting is if you take the breechblock out, there is a tiny "SC" stamped in the bottom of the trigger well. This is very easy to see because it was in a protected spot. South Carolina Confederate Rifle.
