WWI SPRINGFIELD US M1903 RIFLE
Description :
.30-06 Caliber Bolt Action US Military Long Arm. SN# 757XXX. The Springfield barrel is dated "12-17". The barrel, receiver and metal furniture are mostly a steel grey patina. Excellent clear markings. The "S" style stock has a dim "1912" dated original cartouche and a "SA" rebuild cartouche at the wrist. The only replaced parts I can see are the forward rear sight wheel and probably a lower hand guard. Excellent bore, fine mechanics. Complete with M1907 sling and both swivels and stacking swivel. We do not test fire these old "War Horses". I have read both sides of the "Low" number M1903 arguments. The Army never ceased issuing these arms figuring the number of injuries were small compared to the number of soldiers arms with these. I do believe I would never fire reloads thru one of these lower number rifle. It is a good representative of a WWI Rifle and would look good in a display.
