VERY FINE CIVIL WAR IMPORTED M-1851 AUSTRIAN CARBINE
Description :
.71 Caliber, rifled short (30 inches overall) percussion "KammerKarabiner". These were originally produced in tube lock ignition systems but for sale to both North and South during the Civil War were quickly converted to percussion. Most of them had a simple ram rod added at this time under the barrel because in the original Austrian Service these were carried separately. Fine overall condition with bright 14 1/2 inch round barrel which has simple post rear sight and blade front sight. Excellent bore with 12 groove rifling. Bright iron lock is unmarked and this is common because the Austrian markings were removed during percussion conversion. You can see where the tube lock apparatus was removed and the screw holes filled. Strong, excellent mechanics. Smooth bright iron furniture. Sling ring post with correct double rings. Fine oil finished stock appears to be walnut and is unmarked except for a 1/4 inch high "EE" stamped on the belly of the stock behind the metal pistol grip. Just a very, very nice example. 25860
