Item No.: 9557 Price : SOLD
Item : 1884 PRODUCTION COLT US M-1873 CAVALRY MODEL SINGLE ACTION ARMY
Description :
.45 Long Colt US Military Revolver of the Indian Wars. All marks and inspections. The Ordnance Inspector was Captain Frank Heath and the Sub-Inspector was David F. Clark. The inspectors cartouches on the grips are faint from service wear but the Captain Heath's is an oval on the left panel and Clark's is a rectangle on the right. In addition the tiny slanted date "1884" is just above the oval on the left. Inspector Clark's initials appear in several locations on the gun. The revolver comes with a letter of authentication from Mr. John A. Kopec, America's leading authority on the Military Colt Single Action.. His observations were that the piece was 100% correct with the exception that the front sight had been lowered and the hammer was a early 1890's replacement. Otherwise this 100% matching revolver was absolutely correct. The piece is in very good condition overall with the barrel, cylinder and frame all a pleasing dove grey patina. the only traces of original blue are in the cylinder flutes and small areas of case color hardening around the ejector rod housing. The mechanics are excellent with strong hammer and cylinder lock up. Very good but dark bore. Crisp markings.. All wear on this revolver is consistent with US Cavalry use. The revolver comes with it's Kopec letter of course. Very hard to find with the original 7 1/2 inch barrel configuration.
