EARLY ENGLISH FLINTLOCK PISTOL BY JOSEPH CLARKSON

.62 Caliber, Smoothbore English Flintlock Pistol Circa 1740 by Joseph Clarkson. 7 1/4 Inch round barrel with a single "step" 4 1/2 Inches from the muzzle. Barrel is a deep plum brown with light pitting from the step to the breech. Clear oval proofs at the left breech. 4 1/2 inch "Banana" shaped iron lock with serpentine hammer . Shallow oval pan. Bottom of lock marked "Clarkson". Lock is a smooth plum patina. Frizzen spring is a replacement. Fine brass furniture with a heart shaped escutcheon at the thumb and a fine floral engraved side plate. The pommel is a finely done, ornate Lion's Head. Trigger guard engraved and finished off with a Fluer d Lisle. Excellent stock with raised carving along lock and wrist and all around the furniture. Good mechanics and well used bore. Very early officers style pistol.
