.54 Caliber Percussion Alteration of Harpers Ferry Flintlock Rifle. Barrel shortened to 30 inches. Brass blade front sight. Simple post rear sight. Harpers Ferry lock is dated 1814 with a "5" stamped over the 1. Barrel and lock are a deep, smooth plum patina, The bolster is a tombstone shape with a brass blow out plug. This may be a ground down screw head. This is done in the style of a S.C. Robinson, Richmond, VA. alteration. Cast percussion hammer with no checkering at the thumb. Handsome brass patchbox, trigger guard and and side plate are all a deep golden patina. Fine solid original walnut stock is worn like fine antique furniture. Excellent mechanics, pitted rifle bore. Interesting Confederate Rifle.
