.58 Caliber Percussion US Military Long Arm. "1864" Dated lock, "1863" date barrel. Muir of Windsor Locks, CT. got a contract for 30,000 M-1861's and evidently delivered his quota. Rifle is in fine, armory bright condition with crisp markings on the lock and barrel proofs. Complete with original sling swivels and swollen M1855 ram rod. Fair bore, Excellent bore. Excellent oil finished original stock with no hint of cartouche. Many of these late Civil War Contract Arms were not purchased by the US Military and sold off as surplus. By 1864 the Union had an abundance of arms.
