Item : FINE THIRD PATTERN BRITISH MILITARY BROWN BESS MUSKET
Description :
.75 Caliber Smoothbore British Military Long Arm. Original Flint Lock. 39 Inch barrel with rectangular bayonet lug near the muzzle. Barrel is a smooth plum patina with clear ordnance proofs at the breech. Complete with original sling swivels and ram rod. 7 Inch flint lock is marked "Tower" in an arc behind the lock and "Crown/GR" in the center. British Military "Broad Arrow" thru a crown between the legs of the frizzen spring. Post 1810 Reinforced hammer. Fine brass furniture with a handsome age patina at "S" shaped side plate, Ramrod pipes with the Pratt Improvements, trigger guard and buttplate. Fine oil finished stock with sharp edges around lock and mortise. Right butt stamped with small "crown/broad arrow/1806" storekeepers mark and left butt stamped with broad arrow/"BO" board of ordnance inspectors mark. Bore is very good and would clean to fine. Excellent mechanics. These 3rd Pattern Brown Bess Muskets entered British Service in the 1790's and soldiered on all over the world well into the 19th century. The British used them thru out the Napoleonic Wars, War of 1812, The Mexican Army had them at the Alamo, The US Army, Navy and Marine Corps bought and used them. Several States bought them and used them and quite a few ended up in Confederate hands at the beginning of our Civil War. Historic Musket in Fine Condition.
