CIVIL WAR ERA UHLINGER .32 RIMFIRE REVOLVER
Description :
.32 Rimfire 6 shot single action revolver. Grey patina overall. Interesting revolver! 5 inch octagon barrel clearly stamped "W.L. Grant" on the top flat. Additionally the butt is stamped "USN" in tiny letters. This pistol was a product of William Uhlingers gun works in Philadelphia 1860-65. Mr. Uhlinger operated in defiance of the patent infringment of Smith and Wesson on the bored thru cylinder patent. Evidently Mr. Uhlinger changed the names on his revolvers in accordance with whoever was serving papers on him at the time. He was known to even put the names of office boys on the revolvers. Fair condition. Cylinder turns but does not lock. The grips have a poor repair on left toe. Now the final bit of the mystery. At the toe of the pommel in tiny letters is stamped, "USN". This has been on there a long time but as far as I know the US Navy did not buy any of these during the Civil War but it would be worth doing some research
