SCARCE MODEL 1884 U.S. TRAPDOOR CADET RIFLE, .45-70
Description :
This is an original, Model 1884 U.S. Trapdoor Cadet Rifle manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1893. It is chambered for the .45-70 Government cartridge. The Cadet model was slightly shorter than the standard rifle. The barrel is 3 1/8" shorter. It is fitted with the Buffington rifle sight. This is the second type M1884 Cadet with the one piece trigger guard. 10,500 were manufactured from 1890-1893. This rifle is in fine condition with about 30% of its factory blued finish remaining. There is an overall thinning of the finish on all parts. The lock probably retains about 60% of its blue. The case colors of the breech have faded to a bluish gray. Portions of the butt plate are a smooth brown. The rifle has excellent mechanics and a fine bore. The stock is in very fine condition with just a couple tiny dings from use. There is a visible inspector's cartouche on the left side of the wrist dated 1893. There is some very nice figure in the walnut butt. These cadet models are much more scarce than the full size rifles. Stock no. 25236
