This is an original Winchester Model 71 Deluxe Lever Action Rifle manufactured in 1937 and chambered for the .348 Winchester cartridge. Manufactured from 1935-1957, the Model 71 was an improved variant of the Model 1886 action. The .348 Winchester cartridge was the only chambering offered. The rifle featured a 24" barrel and a full pistol grip stock. The deluxe version, which is offered here, had a fancy pistol grip cap, sling swivel studs, and checkered wood. A 20" barreled version was offered a bit later, but was not popular. This early production rifle has the full 24" barrel and the long receiver tang. The rifle has been fitted with a Redfield receiver peep sight. I believe this is a factory installation. While the Lyman 56 receiver sight was the most commonly used, Redfield receiver sights were also listed by Winchester. This rifle is in very fine, original condition. It retains about 95% of its factory blued finish on all surfaces except the butt plate. There is light wear on the receiver edges, on the bottom of the receiver, and on the lever. The loading gate has about 60% of its blued finish remaining. The checkered steel, shotgun style butt plate has a pewter steel patina. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The checkered walnut stock is in very fine condition as well, with just a couple tiny dings and very light scratches from use. The diamonds of the checkering have flattened in some areas from being handled. This is an outstanding example of the Model 71 Winchester Deluxe in beautiful condition. Stock no. 25178
