Item No.: 9402 Price : SOLD
Description :
This is an original, Springfield Model 1903 "NRA" Sporter rifle manufactured at Springfield Armory in 1924. These rifles were built from 1923-1938. Only 4,946 were built. This one is in untouched, correct, and as built condition. The serial number is in the correct range and the barrel is star gauged and dated "7-24". The rear sight is the correct Lyman #48C receiver sight. The stock is the correct M1922M1 D.C.M. Sales Type with the heavy shotgun style butt plate, two recoil bolts, and magazine cut off recess. It does not have the .22 clip relief cut inside the stock. The wrist is marked with a "P" firing proof. The rifle is in very fine condition with more than 80% of its factory blued finish remaining. There is some light finish loss on the barrel near the front sight. The magazine floor plate has turned brown. There are a few specks of patina on the barrel and there was a little surface rusting on the edges of the butt plate at the toe. The bolt and extractor are finished bright. The rifle has excellent mechanics and a fine bore. The stock is in very fine condition, as well. There are just a few tiny dings from use. There are a couple of small spots near the rear sling swivel that look like some mold or fungus may have developed at one time. One is tiny near the edge of the mortise. The other is about the size of a large pea. The Model 1903 Sporter was a popular rifle. Few have survived in their original condition, making those that have truly scarce. This is an excellent example. Stock no. 25169
