Item :	FINE, COLT MODEL 1862 POLICE PERCUSSION REVOLVER, .36 CALIBER

Description :

This is an original, Colt Model 1862 Police Revolver manufactured in the first year of production, 1861. It is a 5-shot, percussion, .36 caliber pocket revolver with a 4 1/2" round barrel and a creeping loading lever. It has a rebated and half fluted cylinder. Approximately 32,000 had been produced by the end of the Civil War. Many of these were converted and sold as cartridge guns, making original percussion examples quite desirable. This revolver is in fine condition. It is complete and all original. It is all matching including the wedge. It retains about 20% of its factory blued finish. Most of the remaining finish is in the flutes of the cylinders and low, protected areas of the barrel. The frame retains about 60% of its case colors which have darkened a bit. The trigger guard retains about 60% of its silver plating with light overall finish wear. The back strap along the grips has no silver remaining. The mechanics work very well. The hammer must be cocked smartly to engage the last stop. The bore is dark, but mostly smooth with strong rifling along its length. The grips are in fine condition, with more than 90% of their varnished finish remaining. The M1862 Police is considered by many to be the best looking of all the percussion Colts.
