| Item No.: | 9333 | Price : | SOLD | | Item : | AMERICAN PERCUSSION BOY'S LONG RIFLE, CA. 1825 | | |
| Description : | | This is a percussion American Long Rifle of about .52 caliber. Dating to about 1825, it is built with a Tryon, Merrick, & Co. lock. This is a smaller version of the Kentucky Rifle, probably intended as a boy's rifle. It has a 43 1/2" octagon barrel. The trigger pull length is about 12 1/2". It is a fairly plain rifle with little decoration and no patchbox. While plain, it is made elegant by the deep sweeping curve of the "Roman Nose" stock and it's thin wrist. The rifle is in very fine condition. The barrel and lock have a dark brown patina. The brass has a golden brass patina. The lock works well. The bore is very dark, rusty, and badly corroded. No rifling is visible. The stock is in very fine condition. It is made of nicely figured curly maple. The barrel is pinned in place. In keeping with the gun's simple decoration, there are two ramrod pipes, but no ramrod entry thimble. The ramrod appears to be original. It is sharply tapered and artificially striped. The striping goes right to the entry hole in the stock and stops. The part of the rod that is not visible is not decorated. Even though plain, this is a graceful and beautiful rifle.
