NAPOLEONIC ERA BRITISH PATTERN 1804 NAVAL CUTLASS
Description :
This is an original British Pattern 1804 Naval Cutlass. Known as the "Figure 8" cutlass because of its distinctive handguard, this was the standard cutlass of the Royal Navy at Trafalgar, throughout the Napoleonic Wars, and during the War of 1812. The cutlass was of all iron construction with a straight flat blade and a cast iron, ribbed "corn cob" grip. This cutlass is in very good to fine condition with an overall dark brown patina. The blade is 28 1/2" long, but has undoubtedly been sharpened many times in its 200 year life. This is one of the King's cutlasses, nicely marked on the right ricasso of the blade with the Crown and "G R" of King George. This is a fine Royal Navy cutlass from the era when Britannia ruled the waves! Stock no. 24865
