Item :	FINE CONTEMPORARY FLINTLOCK LONG RIFLE, .40 CALIBER

Here is a beautiful Contemporary Flintlock Long Rifle made in the style of the Southern mountain rifles. The rifle is unsigned. It is about .40 caliber with a 42" tapered and flared (swamped) barrel. The rifling is cut with round bottom grooves. The rifle is fitted with double set triggers. This is a working man's rifle with little ornamentation, but graceful clean lines. In keeping with the Southern styling, there is no patchbox, ramrod entry thimble, or nose cap. The buttplate is simple sheet brass with a short toe plate. The rifle is in very fine condition. It retains most of its smooth browned finish with just a few small scratches from use. The mechanics work well with the lock providing a good shower of sparks. The flint is set in a lead sheet for cushioning. The rifle has an excellent bore. The stock is a very highly figured piece of curly maple. This rifle has been used in the field and there are a few tiny dings and scratches on the stock, but for the most part it is in very fine condition. There is a small chip at the toe plate. The rifle has a synthetic, flexible fiberglass ramrod. These work great, but I believe I would fashion a nice wooden one as my first order of business! There is also a nice carrying strap or sling that ties to the gun. It is a woven strap with leather ends and very nicely made. This is a very nice custom flintlock rifle for not much more than the price of the parts. Stock no. 24721
