RARE U.S. MODEL 1885 STAMPED "H" BELT PLATE ON MILLS PRAIRIE BELT
Description :
This is an Indian Wars period woven Mills prairie belt for .45-70 Government cartridges. It is fitted with the very rare Model 1885 stamped brass "H" Belt Plate. This plate was only manufactured for two years before being replaced with a heavier version in 1887. The belt is in fair to good condition. Originally navy blue, the webbing has faded from sun exposure to an almost brown color on the outside and the cartridge loops. Two of the cartridge loops on the rear of the belt are heavily frayed away. There are a couple more loops that have a bit of fraying on the upper edges. The belt plate is in excellent condition with a golden brass patina. The majority of the few existing examples of this buckle are excavated. This is a beautiful non-excavated example. Stock no. 24495
