Item :	WINCHESTER MODEL 1892 RIFLE IN .218 BEE

Description :

This is a Winchester Model 1892 Rifle originally manufactured in 1914. The owner of this rifle believes the rifle was converted to fire the .218 Bee cartridge in 1952. The rifle has obviously been converted, as the .218 Bee was not introduced until 1936. I honestly don't know if this is a factory conversion. The barrel appears to be from a Model 65. The markings on the barrel are consistent with those of a Model 65 and under close inspection you can see that the original model number has been removed and overstamped with a "92". This may be how factory conversions were done. I just don't know. The rifle has the correct half magazine and smooth, swelled forearm with a metal tip. The butt stock retains its original cresceny butt plate. The rifle is in very fine to excellent condition. It retains 95% of its blued finish with the only real finish wear on the butt plate. The butt plate has about 50% of its blue and some light pitting at the toe and heel. There is a small scrape on the upper rear top corner of the receiver on the right side. Given the condition of the butt plate, one wonders if the receiver may have been refinished when converted. It does not look like a reblue. All the lettering is crisp and the screw holes are perfect. If it is refinished, it is a masterful job, and lends credence to the thought that this may be a factory conversion. The rifle has excellent mechanics and an excellent bore. The varnished stock is very fine with just a few tiny dings and scratches from use. Whoever converted this rifle did a fantastic job. It is a thing of beauty and in great condition. Stock no. 23702
