Description :
|
Here is an original, U.S. Special Model 1861 Rifle-Musket manufactured by Lamson, Goodnow & Yale of Windsor, Vermont in 1864. The Special Model 1861 differed from the standard Model 1861 in a number of features, primarily the bolster, hammer, lock plate, and barrel bands. The design originated with Colt and was based on the British Pattern 1853 rifle musket. These differences were later incorporated into the U.S. Model 1863 Rifle-Musket. The Special '61 was made by Colt, Amoskeag, Lamson, Goodnow, and Yale and their successor, E.G. Lamson & Company. This musket is in excellent condition. The metal remains nearly 100% Armory Bright, with just a few tiny specks along the barrel channel. The lock works perfectly. The bore is in very fine condition. There are a few specks of pitting, but the rifling is strong along the barrel's length. The stock is very fine. There are a couple of tiny dings that have been smoothed out and one small chip along the barrel channel on the right side. There is a small filled professional repair to the wood around the pin just under the lock plate. The two inspector's cartouches on the left flat of the stock are perfect with crisp detail. This is a beautiful musket in superb condition. You will be hard pressed to find one better. Stock no. 23355
