Item No.: 9038 Price : SOLD
Description :
This is an original, Spencer Military Rifle chambered for the .50 caliber rimfire cartridge and manufactured in 1868. This is the last production variant of the Spencer rifle, known as the New Model. It is identical to the Model 1867, except for the markings. This model is marked "NM" on the barrel near the breech. The Spencer served with distinction during the Civil War. The first variant to see combat was the full length rifle. This occurred at Gettysburg in the hands of Custer's Michigan cavalry. The later production guns, like this one, went West in large numbers. This rifle is in very fine to excellent condition. The barrel retains about 90% of its original factory blued finish. The receiver and mountings still have much of their case colors. Case coloring is a fragile finish and tends to fade where exposed. The left side of the receiver has faded and has a couple streaks of darker color. There is a small area of brown patina on the lock plate. The rifle has excellent mechanics and a very fine bore. The bore is shiny with strong rifling. The stock is in fine condition. There is a small chip on the right side of the forend along the barrel channel and a couple of tiny dings from storage. This is an exceptional Spencer Rifle. Stock no. 24105
