Item No.: 9037 Price : SOLD
Item : CIVIL WAR MODEL 1864 JOSLYN CAVALRY CARBINE, .52 RIMFIRE
Description :
Here is an original Model 1864 Joslyn Cavalry Carbine manufactured in 1864 and chambered for the .52 Rimfire cartridge. The breech loading Joslyn was one of the more widely used carbines of the War. The first Joslyns were delvered early in the war and deliveries continued into 1865. Cavalry Regiments known to have received the Joslyn were the 4th and 8th Indiana, the 19th New York, the 13th Tennessee, the 9th Pennsylvania, the 3rd West Virginia, the 2nd Wisconsin, the 1st Nebraska, the 1st Nevada, and the 11th Ohio. This carbine is in very good to fine condition. The barrel retains about 50% of its factory blued finish. It is turning a smooth brown. There are no case colors remaining on the lock or mountings. These parts range from a silvery pewter to a smooth brown. The mechanics work well. The bore is very good. There is some pitting, but the rifling remains strong along the barrel's length. The stock is in very good condition. There are the usual small dings and scratches from use. The initials "M K" are scratched into the right side of the butt stock. Both inspector's cartouches are visible on the left flat of the stock. This is a nice Joslyn, a carbine used throughout the war. Stock no. 24228
