Item No.: 9025 Price : SOLD
Item : FINE, PRE-WWI MAUSER C-96 BROOMHANDLE PISTOL
Description :
This is an original, pre-WWI Mauser C-96 Broomhandle Pistol chambered for the 7.63mm Mauser cartridge. This is a commercial pistol imported by "Von Lengerke & Detmold" of New York City. Founded in 1882, Von Langerke & Detmold became one of the most respected Arms and Sporting Goods Merchants in America. The company was sold to Abercrombie & Fitch in 1928, with the company name folded into the new company in 1929. The pistol is in an original holster made by the famed Western Saddler H.H. Heiser of Denver, Colorado. Hermann Heiser, a German, founded his first Saddlery Shop in Highland, Wisconsin in 1858. In 1877 he moved the business to Denver, Colorado. By the early 1900's he had earned a world wide reputation for the quality of his leatherwork. Heiser died in 1904, but the company remained a family business until 1945. The Broomhandle is in very fine condition with more than 90% of its factory blued finish remaining. There is some light holster wear at the muzzle and along the right side of the barrel. The front of the magazine and grip straps show some light finish wear as well. The extractor shows nearly all of its fire blued color. The rear sight elevator has about 60% of its fire blue remaining. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The grips are in very fine condition. The gun is all matching including the grips. Each grip has the entire serial number stamped on the inside surface. All markings are crisp. The left side of the frame is stamped "Von Lengerke & Detmold" over "New-York". This pistol is listed in the record books of Von Lengerke & Detmold, which are currently in the Abercrombie & Fitch archives. You may request a copy of the book page listing the gun's acquisition and disposition for a fee. The Heiser holster is in very good to fine condition. It is complete with tight stitching. Much of the gloss black finish has worn to a matte black. The strap has some surface cracking of the leather where it rolls over the gun. The snap has the Heiser logo. The back is stamped "H.H. HEISER" over "MAKER" over "DENVER, COLO.". This is a really nice C-96 Broomhandle with a great American holster. It would be well worth the fee to get the VL&D records. Stock no. 24204
