RARE, VIRGINIA MANUFACTORY 2ND MODEL FLINTLOCK MUSKET
Description :
This is an original, Virginia Manufactory 2nd Model Musket manufactured at the Richmond Arsenal in 1821. Also known as the Model 1812 Type musket, these were produced from 1812-1821. Total production of this type was 37,000. The 2nd Model differed from the 1st type primarily in the shape of the lock plate and the use of a brass pan. This musket remains in its original, flintlock configuration. The vast majority of these were converted to percussion for the State of Virginia or for the Confederacy. This musket is complete and in very good condition. The barrel and stock furniture have very fine pitting overall giving the metal a slightly rough texture with a steely gray patina. The lock has a smoother finish and a steel pewter patina. The frizzen of the lock has a brown patina. The lock works very well. The bore is dark and pitted. The stock is in very good condition with a number of small dings and scratches from use. There are a few small chips along the barrel channel. All Virginia Manufactory Arms are scarce, especially so in their original flintlock configuration. Stock no. 24107
